Myofascial release
Shawn is not just a healer but also a teacher. We have the BEST conversations about living with mindfulness before we start working on the table! I first started meeting with Shawn for pain and tightness in my right hip with pain radiating down into my leg. Now that I feel much better, I continue going to him for overall body tuning and awareness. He is a fabulous listener and has an enormous amount of passion for the type of work he does. He is all in. Our focus has been on Myofascial Release, but I know Shawn has other tricks up his sleeve which we have yet to explore. He has given me stretches and other movement techniques to do at home, which I fondly refer to as my homework. Shawn is a tenderhearted, compassionate jewel of a man who has opened my eyes to fascinating and effective alternative ways of healing using Myofascial Release, mindfulness and movement.

What Is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate. Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc).
The use of Myofascial Release allows the therapist to look at each patient as a unique individual. One-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which the therapist uses a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy, and promotes independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self-treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, ways to improved flexibility, and cultivate Bodymind awareness. Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or tools. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.
Session are guided by your unique individual physical, mental and emotional needs, listening deeply to your body’s innate wisdom while guiding you toward your natural state of well-being and optimal performance. Through Shawn’s nurturing touch (or heart hands), empathic support and intuitive artistry (heart mind), he assists your body’s natural ability to heal restrictions and strain patterns — and reduce physical pain stress, anxiety, depression, emotional traumas, fears and phobias — so you can experience a sense of flowing energy and balance through a Bodymind connection.
